Elizabeth Huskins Hoilman

October 15, 1933 — April 7, 2016

 

Mrs. Elizabeth (Lib) Vance Huskins Hoilman, lifetime Christian and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on April 7, 2016 at the age of 82 at Rose Hill Retirement Community in Marion, North Carolina. She passed away peacefully with her daughters Lisa and Cindy at her side.

 

Born on October 15, 1933 in Plumtree North Carolina to Ernest Vance and Lura Holtzclaw Vance, Lib spent most of her life in Marion with her childhood sweetheart, David Huskins and her five children. She and David opened the Burger Boy Drive Inn in Marion on April 27, 1967. In 1986, David and Lib opened the East Street Flea Market on East Court Street in Marion.  She “ran the Flea Market” until it closed in June, 2015.

 

She was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at First Christian Church in Marion.  She was a vibrant, out-going lady who was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was President for many years of the McDowell County Ladies Republican Federation. She was a competitive bowler and full time chaperone for her children at Pleasant Gardens, West McDowell Junior High and McDowell High School.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband’s David Hunter Huskins and Jon Carroll Hoilman, her brother Ben Vance and her granddaughter, Laurel Huskins.

 

She is survived by her brothers Jack Vance of Tempe, Arizona and Dan Vance of Crossnore, NC, her five children and their spouses, Jim and Beverly Huskins of Marion, NC, Scott and Theresa Huskins of Canton, GA, Lisa and Steve Moore of Cary, NC, Cindy and Brad Sitton of Sanibel, Florida and David and Betty Huskins of Linville Falls, NC.  Her grandchildren are Julia Burdette, Jonathan Huskins, Warren Huskins, Silas Huskins, Haley Huskins, Miriam Biddix, Elizabeth Sitton, Lydia Cannon, Evan Moore and Will Sitton. Her great-grandchildren are Wesley Burdette, Hannah Biddix, Bentley Huskins, Maddie Huskins, Jett Huskins and Vashti Huskins. 

 

A service celebrating Lib’s life will be held at First Christian Church, Marion NC on April 9 at 2:00pm. Family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church, PO Box 1104, Marion, NC 28752.

 

Lib’s life was composed of faith, family, food and fashion.  She lived her life with exuberance, compassion, integrity and strength. With her passing we mourn our loss and celebrate Heaven’s gain.
