Dr. James {Jim} Walter Ennis, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, May 22nd, 2025.
Jim was born in Marion, North Carolina on April 2nd, 1947, to James Walter Ennis and Carrie Ennis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Carrie Ennis and sister, Cathy Ennis.
His family that lives on to miss him are his brother, Ron Ennis and sister Pam Grainger and brother-in-law Donald Grainger. Martha Ennis is his wife of 49 years. His sons, James W. Ennis, III and wife Lyndsay Ennis, Jesse L. Ennis and wife Michelle Ennis, John C. Ennis and partner Ashton Kacsmaryk. Grandchildren, Libby Ennis and Beau Ennis. Step grandchildren, Alexis Blevins and husband Alden Blevins and Joe Tolley. Step great grandchild, Xata Blevins.
Jim joined the Army after graduating from Stanley High School. He served America with honor and courage during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to North Carolina, he graduated as an Industrial Arts teacher from Western Carolina University. Years later Jim was accepted by the University of North Carolina Dental School, he graduated in 1991.
Jim wanted to raise his sons in the mountains of North Carolina where he grew up. In 1993 He opened his general dentistry practice in Banner Elk and practiced until 2015.
He loved his friends from days gone by and he loved his new friends in Avery County. His favorite things were camping and hunting. Especially planning the trips out West and cooking for the camp. He loved his many dogs, and they loved him right back!
James Walter Ennis, Jr., was one of a kind and we will miss him but know that he is now at peace with our Lord.
A private celebration of life will be held at his final resting place, Mountain Home VA Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tennessee.
