Dorothy Elizabeth Duncan Rumfelt, of Greeneville, Tennessee surrounded by family and friends, passed away on September 29, 2024 after an extended illness.
Dot (Dorothy) was born on May 11, 1934 to the late Rev. Milton and Bonnie Duncan of Marion, NC. Dorothy was the second oldest of ten children. Her two surviving siblings are Bill (Gail) Duncan and Carolyn (Tim) Biddix.
Dot worked and retired from Drexel Furniture Company in Marion. She enjoyed her job and made many dear friends while working.
Dot's interests and hobbies were singing with the Young Set, delivering Meals on Wheels, teaching Sunday School, participating in Women Active for Christ, and most of all, enjoying time with her family.
Dot was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Marion. This is where she met the love of her life, just weeks before her 16th birthday. They married in 1950 (only three months after meeting) and shared 56 years of her life with Charles Edward Rumfelt, Sr. until his passing. Dot loved her Greeneville church, Oak Grove Free Will Baptist, where she was honored and loved by all.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rumfelt; two sons, Charles Edward Rumfelt, Jr. and Marshall Wayne Rumfelt; and grandson, James Allen Hodgens.
Surviving children include Sharon (Deryl) Hodgens of Greeneville, TN and Cindy (Terry) Berryhill of Marion and (Wanda) Rumfelt of Murfreesboro, TN. Her children and family refer to their mom as a perfect example of a Proverbs 31 woman.
Grandkids: Wendy (Clay) Gowan- Erika, Haley (Kaleb) Powell-Liam and Camryn, Brian (Ashley) Berryhill- Riley and Lane, Wayne (Mandy) Rumfelt, Jeannie (Jason) Stinnett- Will, Charles (Laura) Smith- Allen and Brooklyn, Logan (Josh) Box and Elijah Smith (children of James (Christy) Smith and Margaret Smith). She had six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren (with one precious one on the way).
Dot had excellent caretakers during her illness: Nellie Shelton, Lisa Shipley, and Mary Webster. They were more family than caretakers. She loved them dearly and they became part of her and her family's heart.
'It is Well' was her favorite song and now we rejoice because IT IS WELL WITH HER SOUL.
Words used to describe her: gracious, precious, pure, unconditional love, Godly, sweet, prayer warrior, lovely, grandkids were her pride and joy- she loved them 'a skyful', truly OUR sunshine!
Funny thought- if you were around her much, at one time or another, she called you a 'little rat' which was said with love and affection.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Brian Bird officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
