Doris Anita Wilkerson Flynn

Doris Anita Wilkerson Flynn, 87, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Mountain Ridge.

A native of Marion, she was born October 12, 1935 to the late John D. Wilkerson and Mae Robbins Wilkerson.

Doris retired from the McDowell County Tax Office and enjoyed working with the public. She was a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church and former member of Montford Cove Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was heavily involved with youth activities in the church including G.A. Leader, Sunday School teacher, Training Union teacher, and as leader of the children’s choir. Doris loved to sing both in the church and in her daily life. She also played the piano.

She was a powerful prayer warrior for her family and friends. A beloved Mamaw to many, she shared many memories with her family, and these meant the most to her during her illness. Doris was a tremendous influence on her family.

She is also preceded in death by her husband who she loved dearly for 64 years, Troy Flynn; and siblings, Frank Wilkerson, Lucille Searcy, and Agnes Wilkerson.

She is survived by two children, Johnny Flynn (Lisa) and Anita Warren (Len); five grandchildren, Tina Harris, Trisha Flynn (Scott), Brandon Flynn (Joanna), Jason Flynn, and Monica Allen (Jake); twelve great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Montford Cove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Mountain Ridge. Doris met so many wonderful people there, and the family will forever be grateful for their impact.
