Survived by her beloved husband, Duane Thien, and her devoted mother, Margie Lowe Smith, Donna is remembered fondly by her two daughters, Marcie Jellema and her husband Steve, and Candy Pendland with her partner Hutch, along with her stepson, Scott Thien and his wife Kristen. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Michael Jellema and his wife Melissa, Katy Smallwood and her husband Spencer, Brenna Herrick, Haley Herrick, Lexi Morrow, and Cole Morrow. Each of them carries with them treasured memories of moments spent with their beloved grandmother.
Donna radiated an extraordinary spirit that embraced all who knew her. Her heart belonged to peonies, and she found joy in thrilling scary movies, delicate tea sets, cuddly stuffed bears, and exquisite porcelain dolls. Animals were drawn to her gentle nature, especially dogs, whom she cherished dearly. Each visit with Donna was a celebration filled with laughter and warmth, exemplified by her legendary potato salad and heartfelt hugs.
Her brown eyes sparkled with a unique celestial blue ring, creating a heavenly presence that brought joy to everyone around her. She not only gifted those close to her a passion for art but also shared a wit that could evoke tears of laughter. Her absence leaves a profound void, but her love, nurtured in countless cherished memories and holiday gatherings, remains forever etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Memorial Gathering to honor Donna Thien will be held on January 12, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory, located at 2170 Rutherford Rd, Marion, NC 28752.
