On Monday evening, January 12, 2026, Dewitt Riddle, Jr., age 92, of Marion, went to be with the Lord at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
A native of Mitchell County, Dewitt was born April 22, 1933 to the late Dewitt Riddle, Sr. and Arlene Buchanan Riddle.
Dewitt honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Drexel Furniture following 45 years of dedicated service. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was a member of Nebo First Baptist Church for over 60 years. Truly loved and cherished by his church family, Dewitt served for many years as a deacon. He was dedicated to the study of God’s Word and read the entire Bible from cover to cover over thirty times. He also served as a Gideon. Dewitt, in his younger years, was an accomplished runner, having completed multiple marathons. He was also an avid gardener. A loving father, grandfather, and friend to all, he will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Duncan Riddle; two brothers, Edward Riddle and Robert Riddle; and a grandchild, Torsten Riddle.
He is survived by three children, Stephen Riddle (Myra), Andrea Phillips (Ron), and Rev. Marvin Riddle (Cindy); five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Wayne Riddle, Raymond Riddle (Theresia), Elizabeth Bartlett, Jolene Rippy, and Barbara Woody (Earl).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Nebo First Baptist Church. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church and will be officiated by Rev. Doug Worley and Rev. Marvin Riddle. Interment will follow at Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine.
