Dennis Kirkland

Dennis Kirkland, 75, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.

A native of McDowell County, he was born on April 08, 1946 to the late Oscar and Eva Woody Kirkland.

A member of Faith Mission Baptist Church, Dennis served as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years, and was an ordained Deacon. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was also a prior employee at Baxter Healthcare. Dennis loved his Lord and his family. He enjoyed fishing and studying his Bible, and he even wrote commentaries on every verse in the Bible over many years which he placed in binders for others to share.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat Kirkland; sister-in-law, Janie Kelley (Tim); many nieces and nephews including special nephew, Mike Gunter (Kim), who treated Dennis as his father; special great nieces and nephew, Tucker and Faith Garland, Pearl “Gracie” Pittman, and Keisha Reel, who was Dennis’ “Little Buddy.”

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Mission Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Ledford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors rendered by the United States Army.
