Della Mae Worley McDaniel

October 24, 1942 — April 30, 2025

Marion

On the evening of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Della Mae Worley McDaniel, 82, of Marion, went to be with the Lord at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

A native of McDowell County, she was born October 24, 1942 to the late Burder and Edith Treadway Worley.

Della Mae’s life was characterized by her deep-rooted faith and strong dependence on the Holy Bible to guide her life. Her love for Jesus Christ was evident in every aspect of her life. From an early age, Della Mae used her musical talents for the glory of God by traveling and singing with her family group, the Worley Quartet. As a lifetime member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, she served as pianist and organist at times throughout the years. She was a strong prayer warrior whose faith sustained her to the end of her life.

A devoted homemaker, Della Mae took great pride in her home and her family. She also provided babysitting services to a number of children in the community who affectionately called her “Mae Mae.” Della Mae was a devoted wife to her late husband of 60 years, Russell Eugene McDaniel, who passed away in 2021. She was an excellent cook, and she preserved the vegetables her husband grew year after year. She enjoyed a close relationship with her family, and she desired that they all know the Lord just as she did.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Gene Worley.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Morris Russell McDaniel and Tina McDaniel Nichols; five grandchildren, Brian McDaniel (Hannah), Brent Nichols (Katie), Katie McDaniel (Adam), Courtney McDaniel, and Blake Nichols (Makayla); and two great-grandchildren, Thea and Walker.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Dr. Tom Walker and Mr. Paul Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family request that donations be made to The Gideons International @ Gideons, McDowell West Camp, PO Box 1788, Marion, NC 28752..
