David Parker

September 4, 1954 — August 27, 2025

Newland

September 4, 1954 – August 27, 2025.

David Parker, 70, of Newland, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Born on September 4, 1954, in Newland, David was a proud lifelong resident of the town he loved so dearly.

David was the very definition of a loving provider, an incredible husband, devoted father, and adoring grandfather. For over five decades, he shared his life with his best friend and beloved wife of 52 years, Ann Parker. Together, they built a home full of warmth, laughter, and unshakable love.

Known throughout the region as the finest block mason around, David owned and operated his own masonry business and was highly respected for his unmatched craftsmanship and dedication to his work. His hands built much more than walls, they built a legacy.

David had a warm forgiving heart and simple joys. He could be found watching Christmas movies no matter the season, never missing a wrestling match, or sitting quietly enjoying the deer and hummingbirds in his yard. Saturdays were often spent at the flea market or on trips to Pigeon Forge, two of his favorite pastimes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Gladys Parker, and his sister Betty Knaack.

David is survived by his loving wife, Ann Parker of Newland; children Kelly (Kyle) Ledford of Burnsville, Jessica Parker of Newland, Toni (Brandon) Jones of Morganton, and Heather McCloud of Newland; grandchildren Samantha (Ashley) Smiley, Elizabeth (Lacey) Smiley, Jeremy Smiley, Ashley (Layken) Singleton, Shane Singleton, Tyler Jones, Carley McCloud, Cory McCloud, Miller Ledford, Noel, Bryson and Sklar Cook. He is also survived by extended family Heaven Nelson and Teresa Clark, whom he loved as his own.

David will be deeply missed by his siblings Clotta Smith, Lisa Turbyfill, Joe Parker, and Tommy Parker; and his lifelong best friend, Randy Walters.

A small memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Saturday, August 30, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Newland.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Medi Home Hospice for the compassionate care and love shown to David in his final days. He cherished each and every person who cared for him.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials can be made in David’s name to Medi Home Hospice.
