Daniel Wayne Creson

Daniel Wayne Creson, age 77, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Born on March 18, 1949, Daniel was the son of the late Daniel Creson and Ida Godwin Creson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melody Ledford.

Daniel was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a proud Mason and a member of Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge No. 237. Daniel dedicated 31 years of his life to serving with the North Carolina Department of Corrections before retiring. Throughout his distinguished career in law enforcement and public service, Daniel served with the McDowell County Sheriff's Department, as well as the Marion and Old Fort Police Departments.

Daniel was passionate about training and sharing his knowledge with others. He taught basic law enforcement courses at Mayland Community College, McDowell Technical Community College, and Western Piedmont Community College. He also provided firearms qualification and training, CPR instruction, and concealed weapons classes.

Daniel was a member of the PERT team, where he served as a sniper. He also formerly served among the Governor's Top 20 Shooters, an accomplishment that reflected his skill and dedication to firearms training and law enforcement.

Daniel's life was marked by a strong commitment to serving and protecting others. Whether through his career in corrections, his years in law enforcement, or his work as an instructor and mentor, he made a lasting impact on the many people whose lives he touched.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 22 years, Louise Creson; two stepdaughters, Melissa Coker (Horace) and Stephanie Hollifield (Jonathan); sister, Debbie Creson Kimbel (Bill); brother, Richard Creson (Tammy); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

A service to honor and celebrate Daniel's life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Beam Funeral Service Celebration Center. Rev. Phil Tate, Elder Gene Herrell, and Bishop Robert Pruitt will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Celebration Center. Interment will follow at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Medi Home Hospice and McDowell Davita for the compassionate care provided to Daniel. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Burton and his nurse, Amanda, as well as Tyler and Kelly with the rescue squad, for their kindness, care, and support during Daniel's time of need.

In lieu of flowers, and at the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to Medi Home Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
