     Dan L. Pendley, 79, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was born on June 7, 1943 in Mitchell County to the late John Washington Pendley and Ethel Wyatt Pendley.

     He was a 1962 graduate of Harris High School in Spruce Pine, NC. He retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. in 2002, after working in the Furniture Industry for 31 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and working in his yard, gardening in the spring and summer. All throughout his life he enjoyed his true passion for playing the bass guitar in several local churches he attended and as a member of several local Southern Gospel Music groups. Those who knew him best, will remember him for his funny quips that seemed to come out of nowhere and being more tickled at his own jokes and quips than anyone else.

     In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a half-brother, Billy Pendley, killed in action in the Korean War. An infant sister, Margie Ellen Pendley.

     He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Murdock Pendley of the home; son, Rev. Aaron M. Pendley (Gwendolyn) of Greenville, NC.

      A graveside service will be at the Lily Branch Baptist Church in Bakersville, NC on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Mark Ball officiating.

     Memorials may be made to Walker Road Baptist Church, 100 Walker Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or the American Diabetes Association.
