Clifford Washington Conner, 92, of Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Laurels of Hendersonville.
A native of Rutherford County, Clifford was born December 5, 1931 to the late Edgar Beam Conner and Lillie Melinda Crawford Conner. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jo Evelyn Williams Conner; and his siblings, Eva Smith, Nellie Conner, Ellie Cloninger, J.C. Conner, Charles Conner, and Margie Meggison.
Mr. Conner retired from Drexel Heritage as a Machine Operator. Having served in the Korean War, he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a Seabee. He was dedicated to his Lord and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rutherfordton. He most recently attended Holly Springs Baptist Church. He formerly served as a deacon. Clifford had a passion for woodworking, and he was truly talented at his work. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren immensely.
He is survived by his three children, Cindy Moore (Eddie), Darryl Conner (Katherine), and Melinda Allen (Rodney); six grandchildren, Alan Conner, Justin Conner (Amanda), Brittany Buckner (Jerry), Jared Allen (Sarah), Jason Allen, and Jacob Allen; six great grandchildren, Theo, Paislee, Cal, Bryson, Mollie, and Conner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Moneyham, Dr. Jim Whitlow, and his grandson, Justin Conner, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
