Charles Howard Ray

Charles Howard Ray, known fondly by those around him for his warmth, humor, and spirited love of life, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at UNC Blue Ridge in Morganton. Born on November 22, 1940, in McDowell County, Charles lived a full life that touched the hearts of many.

Charles will be deeply missed by his family, who were central to his life and happiness. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia McCraken and Donna Balekduian; his sons Charles Ray (Tina), David Ray (Valerie), and Gerald McPeters (Gayla); his brothers, Tommy Ray and Dennis Ray; and his sisters, Margaret Jordan and Lorraine Hairr. Charles's legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren

He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Ray.

A man of varied passions, Charles was known for his fondness for hunting. He was also drawn to his horses. Old cars also captivated him. NASCAR filled his weekends with excitement—Charles was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt. Those who spent time with Charles will remember his great sense of humor, which brightened gatherings and brought joy to all fortunate enough to know him well.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Charles’s life on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory, located at 2170 Rutherford Rd, Marion, NC 28752. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.
