Glenwood

Carrie Lois Stevens Watkins, 98, of Glenwood, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

She was born in Mitchell County on June 9, 1927 to the late Wesley Stevens and Elizabeth Briggs Stevens.

Carrie loved God with all her heart and enjoyed reading her Bible. She was of the Holiness faith. She loved canning, and it did her heart good to give her canned goods away to family and friends. When she was able, she spent her time taking long walks, making rugs, and taking rides in the fall to see the leaves, which she really enjoyed. Carrie would often watch game shows, particularly Wheel of Fortune. She also looked forward to trips to Dot’s Dario for butter pecan ice cream and to McDonald’s for cheeseburgers. She will be remembered for her generous and kind spirit as well as her deep love and devotion for her beloved family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lloyd Watkins; her son-in-law, Larry Elliott; two brothers; and four sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are three children, Betty Lonon (Richard), Shirley Elliott, and Ronnie Watkins; two grandchildren, Ashley Kinnison (Matthew) and Joseph Lonon; three great-grandchildren, Breanna Kinnison, Amelia Kinnison, and Eleanor Kinnison; one sister, Juanita Wacaster; and one brother-in-law. Dillard Watkins.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. David Kell officiating.
