Carol Joan Thiel Hatterman

     Carol Joan Thiel Hatterman, 89, of Marion, NC, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, at her residence.

     Carol was born in Kenton County, Kentucky, on December 25, 1936, to the late Ralph Theil and Mildred Berleu. She worked with U.S. Customs in Miami, Florida, and for many years, with the I.R.S. in Covington, Kentucky. Carol was very fond of cats and roses. She was an avid bird enthusiast and was especially fond of hummingbirds and cardinals. Carol was a devoted Christian lady. Her favorite hymn was always “In the Garden.” She will forever be remembered for her caring heart and her loving devotion to her family.

     In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Sorrell.

     Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Kevin Sorrell (Corrina); her daughter, Kim Franz (Dean); her sister, Paula Sproles; five grandchildren, Casey, Carol, Ashley (Herschel), Samantha, and Candace; eight great grandchildren, Abigayle, Kenneth, Emma, MacKenzie, Zachary, Elijah, Emory, and Laniey; and her beloved cats, Benny and Jerry.

     A memorial service will be held at a later date.
