Brenda Kay Elkins, born on April 2, 1947, in McDowell County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at Mission McDowell. She is remembered as a hardworking woman whose dedication and strength left an indelible mark on the lives of those around her.

Brenda was an exceptional single parent, devoted to raising her son with love, integrity, and resilience. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering dedication to her family were evident in every aspect of her life. Beyond her role as a parent, she found joy in the simple pleasures—her love for Motown music painted her world with vibrant melodies, and her passion for swimming brought her closer to nature and relaxation. She cherished time spent at the pool.

She is survived by her loving son, Jeff Elkins and his wife Michelle; her cherished grandson, Jeffery Ray Elkins; and her great-granddaughter, Natalee Elkins. Brenda's legacy continues through her sisters, Patsy Hollifield and Judy Hollifield; as well as her nephew, Michael Hollifield; and her nieces, Kim Ledford, Rev. Sandi Hood, Elizabeth Lipford, and Lynn Seagle.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Elkins and Cleo Lanning Elkins, and her sister, Barbara Elkins Owens.

As we reflect on Brenda Kay Elkins’ life, we honor her memory as a dedicated mother, a loving family member, and a kind-hearted individual who always worked hard for the well-being of her loved ones. Her spirit will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff at McDowell Assisted Living for the care they gave Brenda.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 3:30 p.m. at the Beam Funeral Service chapel with Reverend Sandi Hood officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Old Nebo Cemetery.
