Betty Sue Smith

Betty Reese Smith, born on December 6, 1938, in McDowell County, departed this life on January 17, 2026. Having lived a vibrant and full life, she touched the hearts of many with her kindness and warmth.

Betty was a faithful figure at New Horizon Baptist Fellowship, an establishment where she not only worshipped but served as a charter member. Her commitment to her faith and her community was evident throughout her life and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

An avid sports fan, Betty found joy in the excitement of games and the camaraderie that came with them. However, it was her family that she cherished most deeply. She adored her grandchildren, Jason Fulbright, Kaitlyn Smith, Tristan Smith, and Levi Smith, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jacob Fulbright, Jordyn Fulbright, and Paisley Simpson. Her love for her family was a defining aspect of her life, and she enjoyed spending time with them, always making room for shopping adventures that brought smiles and laughter.

Betty is survived by her beloved daughter, Lynn Fulbright and her husband Chris, and her devoted sons, Larry Smith and Brad Smith and his wife Jennifer. She also leaves behind treasured nieces, Renae Morgan and Candice Reese, who will remember her fondly.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jack Smith; parents, Carsie Reese and Artha Sowers Reese, as well as her brothers, Charlie Reese and Tom Reese. Their memories will remain intertwined with hers, cherished in the hearts of her family.

A visitation to celebrate Betty's life will be held on January 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Reverend Steve Bugenhagen officiating. Both services will take place at New Horizon Baptist Fellowship, located at 5878 US-221 North, Marion, NC 28752.

Betty Reese Smith will be missed by all, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, faith, and community service will live on through her family and friends.
