Betty Lillian Hall Hensley, 88, of Old Fort, passed away at her residence on Monday, December 4, 2023.
Betty was born on April 6, 1935 in McDowell County to her late parents, Barney Logan Hall and Arwilder Staton Hall. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Stroud.
Betty attended Salem Free Will Baptist Church. She was instrumental in creating the Old Fort Library. She was a member of the Old Fort Ruritan and was national member of the year in the early 90’s. She was also an active member of the Old Fort Senior Center. She was also a writer for the Old Fort Dispatch, for many years. Betty loved to bake and was a master cake maker. She was a professional clown whose name was “Nutsmeg”. She always enjoyed her neighborhood kids visiting on Halloween and another enjoyment of hers was crochet. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving Betty is her husband of sixty eight years, Walter Hensley; her two sons, Garry Hensley (Karen) and Larry Hensley (Sherry); her siblings, Ruby Hall Killough, John Carroll Hall (Kimberly), Brenda Jean Huffman (Eddy) and Elizabeth Green (Doug); two grandchildren, Brandon Hensley (Dana) and Andrew Hensley along with three great grandchildren, Aubrey Hensley, Chesney Hensley and Easton Hensley.
A memorial service will take place at Salem Free Will Baptist Church on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 3:00 pm. Receiving of friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church from 2:00 until 3:00. A private family interment will take place at Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Fort Senior Center @ 909 East Main Street, Old Fort, NC 28752.
