Betty Mae Hall Ellington

Betty Mae Hall Ellington, 92, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, July 06, 2021 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center.


A native of McDowell County, she was born September 04, 1928 to the late Elias Oren Hall and Annie Estelle Hawkins Hall.

Betty attended New Manna Baptist Church until her health prevented her from doing so. A very independent woman, she mowed her own yard and enjoyed gardening. She truly loved helping and caring for others. Betty was always eager to assist others with a ride, food, or a visit when others needed help.

She is preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, a sister, Joyce McKinney.

She leaves behind three children, Charles “Phillip” Ellington (Martha) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Janice Marie Hodges (Sidney) of Richfield, North Carolina, and Harold “Dean” Ellington (Susan) of Marion, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Kim Ellington, Jeff Ellington, Chris Hodges, Matthew Ellington, and Melissa Jones; several great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; her brother, Oren Hall; and several nieces and nephews, including Carolyn Fay (Jan) and Jane Blythe (Harry).

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion. A private graveside service for family will follow at the mausoleum at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastors Tony Shirley and Bruce Ward officiating.
