Betty Jane Byrd Murray

Betty Jane Byrd Murray, 87, of Marion, went to be with the Lord following an extended illness on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

Betty was born on June 1, 1935 in McDowell County to the late Grover Cleveland Byrd and Grace Erwin Byrd. She was a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church and a part of the Bethany Sunday School Class. Betty retired from Baxter Healthcare following more than twenty years of service. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, tending to her plants and her gardens. She was an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan and really enjoyed going to the Outer Banks but decorating for Christmas was one of her favorite things to do. Her and her large family always loved gathering for the holidays. Betty was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Including her parents Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lee Murray; her siblings, Helen Hoyle, Bob Byrd, Donald Byrd, Carl Byrd, Jerry Byrd and Mary Sue Mooneyham.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Billy Jack Murray (Jennifer Edwards Murray); two brothers, Richard Dean Byrd and Larry Wayne Byrd (Geretha); a sister, Carolyn Byrd Thomas; two grandchildren, Amber Dixon (Jacob), and Joshua Murray (Summer) and a great granddaughter, Scarlett Murray.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 26, 2022 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Steve Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 11:00 until 1:00 at the church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery.
