Bethel Jean Gainer

     Bethel Jean Mullins Gainer, 89, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at Rose Hill Retirement Community in Marion.

     Mrs. Gainer was born in Clay County, West Virginia on October 4, 1933, to the late Wilbur Bud Mullins and Martha Mable Salisbury Mullins. She was married to the late Allen Burl Gainer. Mrs. Gainer was a fifty year member of Clendenin United Methodist Church. For more than ten years, she was president of United Methodist Women and director of children’s activities. She volunteered at Clendenin Elementary School for many years. At age 47, she went back to school for her nursing license, and at that time, she scored the highest on her nursing exam.

     In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gainer was preceded in death by three children, Robert K. Gainer, Carol Ann Gainer, and Geary L. Caldwell.

     Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Teresa A. Fleming, Rebecca J. Gainer, and Jeffery A. Gainer; a brother, Jerry D. Mullins; seven grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

     A memorial service will be held at a later date.
