Bennie Earl Proctor

On March 6, 2022. Mr. Bennie Earl Proctor, age 76, of Rutherfordton, crossed over from this life into eternal life with Christ at his home. The son of Julia Proctor and the late Bernie Proctor, he was born in Savannah, Georgia, on December 4, 1945.

Bennie was an avid outdoorsman. In high school, he excelled at tennis while attending Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School. As an adult, Bennie loved bass fishing, hunting, bowling, and golf. In retirement, he enjoyed bicycling, trail maintenance with McDowell Trails Association, and serving his community through the local senior center and Meals on Wheels.

Right out of high school, Bennie served 2 years in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist, 3rd class. He then enjoyed a full career at Great Dane Trailers and concluded his professional years at the Savannah Morning News. Bennie is now in the presence of the Lord, free from all pain and sorrow.

Bennie is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Dixie McKinney Proctor, his father, and two of his sisters, Carolyn Proctor and Ruby (Libby) Proctor. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his three children—Lynda Johnston (Brian), Leah Pratt (Michael), and Laura “Lars” Haseltine (Ben), his mother Julia Proctor, and sister Judy Rice.  He also leaves behind six grandchildren—Toney Johnston (Tayler) and the Haseltines: Dade, Elloree, Alana, Meridian, and Brannen.

I remember Bennie's willingness to volunteer. In particular, his devoting to keeping the Point Lookout Trail maintained for as long as he was able to contribute. Thank you for all those hours, you made our trail experience beautiful. Linda and family, so sorry for the loss of this precious soul.
