Barbara Jane Hunsinger Buchanan

Barbara Jane Hunsinger Buchanan, 77, of Nebo, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Sunday, November 16, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A native of McDowell County, Barbara was born February 25, 1948 to the late Charles Lee Hunsinger and Timia Holland Hunsinger.

Barbara was a devoted and cherished member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. She was formerly very active with the ladies’ auxiliary. Her unwavering faith was a guiding force in her life. Having formerly been employed as a Teacher's Assistant with McDowell County Schools, Barbara was known for her nurturing spirit and dedication to education, as she touched the lives of many students throughout her career.

Barbara's personal life was rooted in her profound love for her family. Spending time with them was most important to her, and she cherished every moment they shared. Her passion for cooking brought joy to family gatherings, and, when her health allowed, Barbara enjoyed camping trips with her loved ones.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Avery Buchanan, Jr.; her children, Greg Buchanan (Cheryl) and Karen Buchanan; and two sisters, Becky Forbes (Danny) and Debbie Huffman.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at the church with Rev. Mark Forbes and Rev. Brandon Smith officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Rev. Donald White officiating.
