Archie Carl Smith

Archie Carl Smith, 78, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Mission Hospital McDowell.

He was born in McDowell County on April 19, 1947 to the late Ernest “Jay Bird” Smith and Selma Jenkins Smith.

Archie had a passion for all things automotive. He worked as a mechanic for many years, and he spent 34 years as a truck driver. Archie loved hot rods and working in his garage. A loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Archie was a true family man. His grandchildren were very special to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rodney “Rocky” Smith; one brother, Richard Smith; and one sister, Lou Ann Barlowe.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith; his children, Archie Smith, Jr., Tina Brewer, Michelle Gwyn, Michael Smith, Tommy Todd (Brooke), and Tammy Moore (Alan); two sisters, Rosetta Wilson (Danny) and Twillia Moore (Tony); brother-in-law, Don Barlowe; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Beam Celebration Center. The funeral service will begin at noon and will be officiated by Rev. Tracy Smith. Interment will be at Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
