Anna Ruth Wilson Atkins

On the morning of Friday, March 27, 2026, Anna Ruth Wilson Atkins, 82, of Marion, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family in her home.

A native of Yancey County, she was born November 4, 1943, to the late Ernest Richard Wilson and Evelyn Clara Wyatt Wilson.

Ruth was a wonderful, Godly woman who faithfully supported her husband’s ministry in the Church of God for many years. She had a heart for lost souls, and her mind was constantly focused on winning souls for the Lord. As long as her health allowed, she enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Ruth will be remembered for her deep love and devotion toward her family and friends. She loved everyone unconditionally, and was known as a very friendly person. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Atkins Wright; and two sisters, Carolyn McCanless and Kittie Hughes.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Rev. Charles E. Atkins; two children, Richie Atkins (Sheri) and Sherry Atkins Buchanan (Timothy); son-in-law, Darrell Wright; one sister, Martha Burleson (Reid); eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Nealsville Church of God. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
