A native of Buncombe County, she was born February 11, 1950 to the late Lizzie Mae Price Shuford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Howie.

Alma's generosity extended beyond her immediate family; she embraced everyone in her life with open arms and an open heart. She enjoyed taking small trips with family and friends as well as going on scenic rides with her husband.
