Alan Byrne Tinney, age 70, of Conley Ridge Road in Bakersville passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at his home.
Born on March 26, 1956, in Ancon, Panama, he was the son of the late Oscar Byrne Tinneyand the late Wilma Howell Tinney. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister; Nancy Tinney.
For ten wonderful years, Alan shared his life, his heart, and his journey with the love of his life and significant other, Krista Longanecker. Their years together were filled with love, and a profound partnership built on mutual respect, unconditional love and unwavering support.
Alan had spent parts of his life in Spain, North Dakota and Virginia. He was a 1974 graduate of Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, VA. Soon after his graduation, he settled in Mitchell County and was the sixth generation of his family to live in Mitchell County. Alan was a man of many talents and skills. He had worked at WTOE and later at WNCW. He was very gifted musically and could play any instrument. Prior to declining health, he played music at the Orchard at Altapass. Once his health declined, he became the sound technician there for several years.
He was a skilled carpenter and had worked on numerous projects in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. He loved attending The Grove Church. He had rededicated his life to Christ and spent the last years of his life serving others and directing them to the Lord.
Left to cherish his memories are his significant other and soul mate of ten years; Krista Longanecker and her son, Mark Falvey affectionately known to Alan as ‘stepson’, his daughter, Erin Crouse (CJ) his son; Matthew B. Tinney (Kyla), his grandchildren; Jacob Byrne Tinney and Samantha Joyce Tinney and his sister; Liz Tinney.
Graveside services and interment will be Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Rebels Creek Cemetery with the Rev’s James Byrd and Shane Cassida officiating.
