Alan “Todd” Helms, beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on August 19, 2026. Born on February 6, 1976, in McDowell County, Todd spent his fifty years inspiring those around him with kindness, warmth, and an devotion to his family.
Todd was the cherished son of Dixie Lawing Helms and the late Rev. Joseph Helms.
Todd attended the Yancey Street Baptist Church. He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. He enjoyed playing the guitar and mowing grass.
As a devoted father, Todd leaves to cherish his memory his son Marc Helms, daughters Hannah Helms Hernandez (Jose) and Layla Helms, and his adored grandchildren Waylon Helms and Jameson Helms Hernandez. He shared a special bond with his sister, Missy Helms Woody (Keith). Todd was proud to be called “Uncle” by his nephew, Anthony Ross (Jessie), as well as Ace and Axel.
Todd’s friendships and connections enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He lived with a generous spirit, marked by loyalty and care for all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance at Yancey Street Baptist Church, for visitation on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Dean Owenby officiating.
