Rose Lee Harris Broadway, age 81, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on the night of Wednesday, December 25, 2019. A native of McDowell County, born on August 27, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Tursie Dalton Harris.
She was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, her husband, Arnold Broadway, who passed away in 2003; and eight siblings, Bessie Hudgins, twins, Willard and Millard Harris, Alfred Harris, Lawrence Harris, Bonnie Harris, Lilly Walker and Ed Harris.
An amazing and talented mother, grandmother and sister, Rose Lee enjoyed singing gospel music. She would travel to multiple churches throughout the area sharing her talent of singing and at one time could be heard singing on 1250 WBRM in Marion and 106.9 The Light in Black Mountain. Rose Lee was an avid wood worker and was known to have sold nightcrawlers, but most of all, she loved to make sour dough bread and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her five children, Joanne Hunt (Joey), Katherine Lloyd, Richard Noblitt (Sue), Judy Noblitt and Ray Lanning (Heather); one brother, Joe Harris (Lillian); and one sister, Jane Whitesides (Hobert). Rose Lee is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Michelle, Kristy, Alex, Jessica, Amanda, Jeremy, Tony and Desiree; fifteen great grandchildren; and her two feline buddies, “Barny” and “Tiny”.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Jason Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
A private inurnment will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
