Mr. Charles Dean Hemphill, age 91, of Dallas, Georgia, formerly of the Montford Cove Community, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville, Georgia. A native of McDowell County, Dean was born on September 3, 1926 to the late Broadus and Nellie Early Hemphill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Bertie Elma Harris Hemphill; one daughter, Melba Faye Roberts; and three brothers, Max Hemphill, Walter Hemphill and Carroll Hemphill.
Dean had retired from the United States Navy, having served in World War II. Following his Navy career, he was a sales representative for Burgess Carpet in Macon, Georgia. Known as a wonderful father, grandfather and brother, he formerly served as a deacon at the Bloomfield Gardens Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. Dean also enjoyed singing in a number of gospel groups and will be missed by all that knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Larry Dean Hemphill and his wife, Eva, Sharon Elma Mullis; and Darryl Wade Hemphill and his wife, Lourdes; three siblings, Ray Hemphill and his wife, Penny, Margie Swann and Doris Woods. Also surviving Dean are five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Hemphill.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hemphill will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. Tim Holland officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior the service, at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will occur immediately following the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
